The World Wide Computer is a utiliity

The Internet is fast becoming the biggest utility in the world. It is no longer just a great way for computers and people to communicate, is is becoming the general utility that delivers almost any service you could require.

The book covers the fascinating similarities, and striking contrasts between the Internet, and the electricity grid as it developed one hundred years ago.

If you are wondering what all this talk about the 'Cloud' is then read this book.

Short insight from the book:

It turns out that the broad egalitarian promises of the web are wildly optimistic and it is clearly illustrated that the reverse is far more likely.

Social networking and blogging only serve to reinforce the barriers and gaps that already exist between different social, political and racial groups. Further exacerbating the situation are the algorithms that Google and others use to feedback information about ourselves.

When you search, the information that is provided back to us is increasingly based on our previous activity, views and associates. This only works to re-enforce attitudes and opinions already held, to the point of extremism in the worst case. This is the opposite outcome of the all-inclusive, equal opportunity and exposure to information that the web is purported to offer.

I'm sick of my other crappy blogs

This blog, and this post are to mark a new day for me. The old blogs will be deleted and any useful posts will be salvaged and imported to here.

So lets get blogging.
